YGAM and Betknowmore UK Introduced Safer Gambling Training Program

The Young Gambling Education Trust (YGAM) and Betknowmore UK have decided to join forces to introduce Safer Gambling Training. It is a?new initiative aimed at delivering online professional instruction for gambling employees to improve levels of gambling safety and efficiently ensuring that customers do not profit from gambling.? The training’s approach was?developed using a technique known as ‘flipped learning’ stemming from research in Neuroscience exploring?how the brain learns.

Safer Gambling Training for Casino Staff MembersThe partnership blends skills lived experience and analysis to establish the most innovative and detailed educational programs worldwide. Six immersive multimedia training courses, covering core topics such as client security, protection, consumer relationships, threat recognition, and mental health and wellness, have been released.

YGAM’s CEO, Lee Willows, revealed that together with Betknowmore UK, they have worked with various operators with the purpose to create face-to-face training in the last year. Thus, having a strategic alliance to continue the project combining it with digital learning seems a natural progression. He stated that understanding customer vulnerability and player protection is something that operators are willing to train their team members for.

“Safer Gambling Training will support the customer-facing teams by increasing their understanding of gambling-related harm through the lens of lived experience. We are working with international partners to scope an International Standard that colleagues within the sector can take with them throughout their career, and which includes regular mandatory updates and refresher courses,” – added him.

The Two Charities Will Continue Updating the Program to Keep Players Safe from Harm-Gambling

Betknowmore UK’s CEO, Frankie Graham, responded that companies focused on gambling require trained employees to provide consistent, high level and trusted customer service. Therefore, their aim with this new training program is to assist in raising standards and creating a benchmark of knowledge and understanding of gambling-related harm.

Graham mentioned that they have developed content with the help of those with lived experience of gambling along with the insight and knowledge from their partner organizations experts within their sector. He promised that they would continue to upgrade their programs in order to ensure that it will keep up with the dynamic gambling market and keep players safe and free from harm-gambling.

The British Gambling Commission Also Aims for Responsible Gambling

The Safer Gambling website and eLearning content are created by design agency Me&You. The profit earned from this training will go back to the two charity organizations in order to support other social purposes.

Safer gambling or responsible gambling seems also to be the aim of the British Gambling Commission. In March earlier this year, the chair of the commission, Neil McArthur, issued a statement reminding operators of the importance of responsible gambling.

Later, another law proposal was made to the UK Government – affordability check for anyone who wants to spend more on gambling. This proposal was made by the Cross-Party Think-Tank Social Market Foundation (SMF). Problem gamblers seem to have also increased during the lockdown, according to the Gordon Moody Association, which is another reason why Safer Gambling Training is a great initiative to prevent gambling addiction between those who like gambling.
