Better Business Bureau Gave BetMGM an F

BetMGM Rating is Drastically Going DownSince the Supreme Court ruling in 2018 on PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act), a larger percentage of the United States population has gained access to regulated sports betting. But this also implies more room for customers’ complaints.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has records of several of these, and from the rating, BetMGM’s performance has been poor. The operator, which runs as a 50/50 joint venture of Entain Plc and MGM Resorts International, has an “F” as its BBB grade. It got 1.05 stars out of a possible 5 stars. Customers have filed 352 complaints against BetMGM to the BBB in the previous year, bringing the three-year total to 602.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the three biggest online sportsbook operators in the US – FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM, have received over 2,400 complaints from customers in the last three years. Most of these complaints are centered around the long time it takes to process withdrawal requests. Customers are also complaining that they are not receiving bonuses promised by BetMGM or they are being kicked off the platform in the middle of the play.

To its credit, the operator has been responding to the complaints made on the BBB website. Most of the recent complaints revolve around the online casino operations of the company, not its sportsbook. The company has also came under fire recently from its own employees. MGM employees have filed a class action lawsuit against the company for what they claim was poor performing 401k investments.

Numerous Complaints Filed Against BetMGM

The BBB is in charge of the rating of about 5.4 million companies of different sizes and across multiple industries. According to the Journal reports, only 1.5% of them get failing grades. BBB pointed out that 86% of customer complaints against BetMGM got a response from the operator.

312 of the 352 complaints filed against BetMGM last year were due to problems receiving funds or platform issues. Some states in the US penalize those gaming operators that make the withdrawal of funds difficult for their customers. Based on the complaints on the BBB website, this is what BetMGM is doing.

Despite their responsiveness, BetMGM often asks their customers to send in various documents, like government-issued identity cards and bank statements, before they can access their money. Despite this, some customers claimed they still could not access their money.

FanDuel and DraftKings Not Spared

BetMGM rivals, FanDuel and DraftKings, got “A-” and ” B-” grades, respectively, but their grades required further examination. DraftKings has a BBB star rating of 1.11 out of the 5 possible stars, and its customers filed a total of 465 complaints against the operator last year.

Over the past three years, DraftKings has received 871 complaints on the BBB website. 764 of these objections are related to withdrawal or platform issues. Players complain that the platform often glitches when they are winning and that they also face difficulty when making withdrawals.

The biggest online sports betting provider in the US, FanDuel, is not spared from this wave. Many considered the “A-” grade received from BBB as deceiving. This is because the operator got just a 1.1-star rating out of the possible 5.

Additionally, the operator has received a total of 491 complaints in the past one year and a whopping total of 817 complaints in the past three years. Of these complaints, more than 540 pertain to withdrawal and platform issues.
